Oklahoma vs. Texas: The Future Of Fuck

Anyways, The BCS Polls came out yesterday evening and Texas fans are pissed the fuck off. There’s still a ray of hope though — I think. I’m not certain about one thing, and would like an answer: Can two teams from the same conference play each other for the National Title?

The tie breaker in the Big 12 when three teams are tied is the final BCS standings. Oklahoma gets to face Missouri, and is pretty much guaranteed a shot in the Championship game.
But what about Alabama? Alabama is currently between 10 and 13 point underdogs against Florida at a neutral site, the Dog Fight Dome. So its not that far fetched to assume Florida is going to take this game. Which would more than likely screw with the computers, and coaches.
The six computers that use the maths! to figure out the rankings ranked Oklahoma above Texas, regardless of Texas’ victory over Oklahoma, due to strength of schedule. Texas’ schedule cannot compare to Oklahoma and with Missouri’s loss against Kansas, it sinks lower.
Florida’s schedule is also pretty weak. Their key win against Georgia, doesn’t look that great now that Georgia lost to Georgia Tech. That leaves presumably Alabama, Florida State, and LSU. Florida’s schedule was pretty much a cake walk.
So will a Florida win vault them up to number two in the nation, and in to the BCS Championship?
If you rely solely on the computers, then…. NO!

Everyone gives the BCS computer system a lot of shit but it could be the COACHES, and HARRIS Poles that really screw over Texas.
Even with a win over Alabama, Florida’s strength of schedule remains Lower than Texas’. Here are the full Computer rankings, and SOS formulas.

Too bad the pollsters don’t have to make public their votes.
You said “due to strength of schedule. Texas’ schedule cannot compare to Oklahoma and with Missouri’s loss against Kansas, it sinks lower.”
So my question has always been, why does Texas always select such a weak non-conference schedule? Seems like after a few years Mack Brown would learn (but sometimes I think he’s not real smart–like when it’s late in the 4th quarter and Texas is comfortably ahead and he calls McCoy’s number to run the ball.) I remember the year that Mack Brown canceled the Hawaii game because he wanted a weaker opponent. For 2009, Mack Brown has scheduled Wyoming (current Power Ranking 106), Central Florida (current Power Ranking 102), Texas-El Paso (current Power Ranking 84) and Louisiana-Monroe (current Power Ranking 110). Who wants to even buy a ticket to go watch the Horns beat these guys 55 to 6? There’s no sport there. And who wants to listen to Mack Brown whine when his strength of schedule comes back to bite him in the butt at the end of the year?
Hey, the Computers actually think Texas’ schedule is tougher than OU’s schedule, but the Human’s, myself included, see Oklahoma as having a tougher schedule.
A lot of these high level teams schedule some pretty bad games in between big conference games to almost get a rest.
Texas played Ohio State University a couple years ago, and it worked out well for them. Really, if you have a marquee matchup once every 2 or 3 years on your non conference schedule — you’re good to go.
You dont want to be the team that books in Penn State, while your opponents book Northwestern, Minnesota, and Indiana.
