Oklahoma vs. Texas in the BCS Championship

Anyways,  The BCS Polls came out yesterday evening and Texas fans are pissed the fuck off. There’s still a ray of hope though — I think. I’m not certain about one thing, and would like an answer: Can two teams from the same conference play each other for the National Title?

The tie breaker in the Big 12 when three teams are tied is the final BCS standings. Oklahoma gets to face Missouri, and is pretty much guaranteed a shot in the Championship game.

But what about Alabama? Alabama is currently between 10 and 13 point underdogs against Florida at a neutral site, the Dog Fight Dome. So its not that far fetched to assume Florida is going to  take this game. Which would more than likely screw with the computers, and coaches.

The six computers that use the maths! to figure out the rankings ranked Oklahoma above Texas, regardless of Texas’ victory over Oklahoma, due to strength of schedule. Texas’ schedule cannot compare to Oklahoma and with Missouri’s loss against Kansas, it sinks lower.

Florida’s schedule is also pretty weak. Their key win against Georgia, doesn’t look that great now that Georgia lost to Georgia Tech. That leaves presumably Alabama, Florida State, and LSU.  Florida’s schedule was pretty much a cake walk.

So will a Florida win vault them up to number two in the nation, and in to the BCS Championship?

If you rely solely on the computers, then…. NO!

Check out http://www.colleyrankings.com/playgod.html

Everyone gives the BCS computer system a lot of shit but it could be the COACHES, and HARRIS Poles that really screw over Texas.

Even with a win over Alabama, Florida’s strength of schedule remains Lower than Texas’.  Here are the full Computer rankings, and SOS formulas.
